Community holds vigil for sisters killed in Revere pedestrian crash

REVERE, Mass. — A 2-month-old infant succumbed to her injuries just days after her sister was killed when they were hit by a car in Revere, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

Natasha Nicole Mejia-Rivera was in intensive care since Sunday.

Her sister, 5-year-old Adrianna Mejia-Rivera, was killed Sunday when she was hit by a car while waiting in the median on Revere Beach Parkway with her family. Authorities say two adults and three children were on the grass median near the intersection of Route 145 and North Shore Road in Revere at about 5 p.m. Sunday when they were hit.

The driver, 42-year-old Autumn Harris, was held on $10,000 bail during her arraignment Monday. Not-guilty pleas to charges including motor vehicle homicide were entered on her behalf.

Officials say Harris allegedly stated she had consumed one beer earlier in the afternoon, had taken prescription and over-the-counter medication to help her sleep the night before and that she had only slept for two hours before working all day Sunday.

“Our priority right now is supporting a family who lost the center of their world in the blink of an eye,” said Suffolk County District Attorney John Pappas, who has assigned two victim-witness advocates to the case. He added that additional charges are likely in the days and weeks to come.

A candlelight vigil was held at city hall Thursday night to remember Adriana Mejia-Rivera and her sister, Natasha Nicole.
