Framingham mayor: MCR Labs dumped 'usable marijuana' in 'unlocked dumpsters'

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — A marijuana testing facility in Framingham is accused of dumping their stash right into the trash.

Framingham Police found "usable marijuana" discarded in unlocked Dumpsters outside of MCR Labs on Speen Street on Sunday night, according to a statement released Tuesday by Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer.

A police officer had responded to the location around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to investigate a car parked on a curb at 85 Speen St., the location of MCR Labs, which has a host agreement with the city to conduct marijuana testing.

"After checking the vehicle for occupants, the officer looked inside the unlocked dumpsters near the parked car. In the dumpsters, he observed vials containing extracted THC and usable marijuana," Spicer said.

MCR Labs "is in violation of the General Operating Requirements for Marijuana Establishments," Spicer said.

The city has asked that the Cannabis Control Commission investigate the violation.

“I’m confident that MCR will address the violation swiftly with the Commission,” said Spicer.

Boston attorney Valerio Romano, who represents MCR Labs, told Boston 25 News that while he has read the mayor's statement, they have not been contacted by Framingham police.

Romano said that following the letter that the mayor sent to the Cannabis Control Commission,  members of the Cannabis Control Commission spent the day at MCR Labs with lab administrators regarding the disposal complaint out of the Speen Street lab location in Framingham.

After meeting with CCC officials, MCR Labs will be updating their disposal policies and procedures to make sure there are no further issues regarding disposal of product, Romano said.

Romano added that while it is customary practice to discard unusable samples, the company will work with the CCC to satisfy disposal guidelines for unusable samples and other discarded product to meet both CCC guidelines and the expectations of the City of Framingham.
