Fire breaks out on roof of Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A fire broke out on the roof of Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence on Tuesday night.

No one was injured. The flames were quickly put out by firefighters.

A boy looking out a hospital window spotted the fire on a roof.

The hospital is now calling the boy a hero.

"He is a hero, he is a superhero, we always talk about the superheroes here at Hasbro Children's Hospital and he really is a superhero," said Dr. Timothy Babineau, president & CEO of Lifespan, after the younger brother of a patient at the hospital spotted it around 8 p.m. Tuesday

"It's amazing. I guess he was looking out the window and said 'Mom, there's a fire!'" Babineau said. "She believed him and told the staff and staff called the Providence Fire Department immediately and fire was put out immediately and thankfully nobody was hurt."

The fire was contained to the roof and knocked down in about 10 minutes

The hospital was not evacuated and patient care was uninterrupted.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
