Driver crashed into pole in Chelmsford while swerving to avoid dog, police say

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — A pick-up truck crashed into a pole in Chelmsford while swerving to avoid a dog that ran out into the middle of the road, Police Lt. Gary Hannagan told Boston 25 News.

The 2012 Ford F-150 took out a pole around 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Middlesex and Gay Streets.

The 43-year-old Dracut man behind the wheel told police he swerved to avoid a dog that ran out into the road. Hannagan said the dog’s owner confirmed the driver’s account.

The driver wasn’t hurt, but parademics checked him out at the scene. He didn't want to be taken to the hospital.

Hannagan said there was no indication the driver was impaired.

Police have shut down the area where the crash happened. Verizon is at the scene to replace the pole, which was snapped at the base.
