Driver arrested after police pursuit ends with SUV crash in Roslindale

BOSTON — Police arrested a driver after a harrowing police pursuit that ended with an SUV crash in Roslindale.

"There was just so much happening, so many lights, so many officers. It was pretty crazy," said witness Allie Jones, whose car was clipped by the unidentified driver.

Boston Police say it all began just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the driver of the car, identified as 57-year-old Michael Robicheau, was blocking the entrance of the Roche Bros. supermarket in West Roxbury.

When an officer asked Robicheau to move, he drove off and officers followed him into Roslindale.

Surveillance video from Moreno Auto Collision shows the SUV, then several officers turn onto Bexley Street.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Washington and Bexley streets.

Jones told Boston 25 News that she was about to leave a home on Bexley Road when all of a sudden, she heard someone blaring their horn.

"I was backing out to leave and I heard someone lay on their horn," she said.

Moments later, a car smashed into her car and a couple of others.

Jones said police quickly surrounded the area with their guns drawn, at the driver of a black Mercedes SUV. It all happened very quickly.

"The man, I guess, they were saying had a gun in his front seat - he swerved to get around both of us and got stuck between the lamp post and the bushes so he was reversing and trying to drive through but was completely jammed," Jones said.

Nathan Wright of Roslindale said he saw several officers responding to the scene.

“I heard squealing tires, a loud crash and then voices yelling complaints orders and then I saw what you see in the footage. There were probably 12 police cars - double the number of policemen that were pulling someone out of a car,” Wright said.

Several cars were hit by Robicheau, as police said he tried to get away from officers.

Robicheau was charged with refusing to stop for a police officer, driving to endanger, operating on a revoked/suspended license, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (car), unlawful possession of a firearm, leaving the scene after causing property damage, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
