Despite major snow storm, local couple plans to say "I do" on Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. — For a lot of people, the upcoming snow storm will likely put a damper on weekend plans. But for one couple, the snow storm is clashing with a very important day.

When Jamie Chatzopoulos planned a January wedding, she knew there'd be a chance of snow.

"I promised myself I wouldn't be a bride that checked the weather compulsively," the bride-to-be said. "I was like 'okay, it will be a beautiful winter wedding, a few inches' -- I'll deal with it, and as we got closer and closer, I realized it was going to be a storm."

With the forecast totals showing heavy snowfall, Chatzopoulos went into full planning mode -- ordering clear umbrellas and shawls for all the guests. She even made sure all her bridesmaids had boots to wear.

No matter the forecast, the couple plans to say "I do."

Her father organized re-enforcemts to make sure the roads will be cleared, calling in sand and snow plowers for the big day.

But it's the guest list that concerns the couple most. Chatzopoulos and her fiance, Nathan, have 220 friends and family members traveling in from all over. They hope they'll all be able to attend.

"We have friends coming in from San Franciso, friends that moved their flights from Cleveland to come earlier... family from Canada coming in," Chatzopoulos said.

Local businesses are also stepping up to prepare ahead of the snow storm. Danielson Flowers in Shrewsbury said they're preparing bouqets on Friday to make sure the snow won't slow them down over the weekend.

"We really can't stop," said Judy Danielson, owner of the flower shop. "I mean, in our business flowers are essential, and we definitely don't want to dissapoint anybody at this point."

Though Chatzopoulos prefers not to change any of her wedding plans, she's optimistically looking at the grand scheme of things.

"I'm just going with the flow," she said. "Definitely the happiness of being married to Nathan at the end of the day is overriding everything else. I’m still going to get married and it will be totally fine."
