Deadly pedestrian crash on Mass. Ave under investigation

BOSTON — State Police are investigating a crash in Boston that killed a woman on Monday morning.

According to a news release, State Police were called at around 7:50 a.m. for a pedestrian that had been struck by a car on the Mass Ave Connector at Melnea Cass Boulevard.

The victim, who was only been identified as a woman, was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Initial investigation shows the pedestrian was hit by a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by a 34-year-old North Carolina man, who stayed on scene. The driver was also transported to BMC for evaluation of possible injuries.

Officials closed off parts of the area for a couple of hours following the accident.

MassDOT said the south ramp to Mass Ave from I-93 had been closed down, where no traffic was able to get off southbound at Exit 18.

The ramp from Frontage Road to Mass Ave was also shut down as authorities remained on the scene of the crash.

The specifics of the crash are still unclear. Authorities continue to investigate this incident.
