Classes cancelled for Cohasset middle/high school students after social media threat

A threat on social media has led school officials in Cohasset to cancel the last day of classes for middle and high school students Tuesday as police continue to investigate.

The superintendent of Cohasset Public Schools, Louise L. Demas, said in an emailed statement sent to parents early Tuesday that Cohasset police "received information regarding a social media threat to Cohasset middle high school students," late Monday night.

At this point, the police are unable to dismiss the threat," the email said. "In an abundance of caution and given the late discovery of the threat, the CPD have recommended that school for CMHS be cancelled for Tuesday, June 18." Because the threat was not directed at elementary students, the superintendent said, police did not think it was necessary to close the two elementary schools, Osgood and Deer Hill.

Cohasset Police confirmed that the middle/high school was closed Tuesday due to a threat. Officials did not release any details on the nature of the threat.

According to the school district's website, Tuesday is the last day of classes for Cohasset students.

The superintendent noted that "Information regarding student exams and final grades will be forthcoming from the school administration later today."
