Knife-wielding suspect shot several times by police in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. — Brockton Police shot a man several times Friday afternoon after he came at officers with a knife, the Middlesex DA says.

Officers were responding to a 'disturbance call' when they were approached by the man with a knife.

"They encountered a male with a knife," said DA Timothy Cruz in a statement. "The man advanced at the officers and shots were fired."

When police ordered the man to put the knife down, he reportedly didn't comply and was shot by the officers.

The original emergency call came in at 12:19 p.m., the Plymouth County District Attorney told Boston 25 News.

Two officers in two separate cars showed up at the reported location to find a man in his mid-20s with a knife, the DA's office said.

The man then started 'advancing' on the officers and was shot when he didn't respond to commands from police, we're told.

The man was reportedly shot multiple times and was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital.

"Five, I heard five gunshots, at least five," said Glenn Jackson, a witness. "I'm listening and was like, 'Whoa that was gunshots.' I didn't think it was this close. It was right down the street."

Police launched an investigation into the incident, but preliminary information from the DA indicates only one officer fired his weapon.

The suspect is still hospitalized at Good Samaritan and the two officers were not injured.

The DA says this incident remains under investigation.
