Police searching for gunman who shot teen near Jamaica Plain T stop

BOSTON — Boston Police are investigating after a teenage girl was shot near the Jackson Square MBTA stop in Jamaica Plain.

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said the victim, who was shot in the upper body, is expected to survive after undergoing surgery on Tuesday. Authorities are not yet confirming her age, only saying she is possibly in her late teens.

"We have officers canvassing the crime scene looking for witnesses, videos," Gross said. SWAT team members and about two dozen officers were seen going into a nearby apartment building.

People living near the Mildred Hailey Housing Authority were shocked.

"I’m just appalled. It’s right near the T station," said resident Noelani Alexis.

Boston Police received reports of a car accident in the area of 265 Centre St. just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Boston Police closed down streets in the area of Columbus Avenue and Centre Street for almost two hours.

The car that crashed had bullet holes in it, police said.

"A motor vehicle did flee from the area. It is unknown if it was involved with the crime. It then crashed into another car in traffic," Gross said.

The MBTA has suspended service on the Green Line E branch between Brigham Circle and Heath Street due to police activity.

Neighborhood residents said they're fed up with the violence on city streets.

"I hope they get the guys," said resident Russell Landrun.
