Boston ranked top place to have the most positive view on police

BOSTON — Boston has been ranked as one of the top places in the country to have the most positive view on police, according to a new survey from YouGov Citybus.

Of residents in the 20 most populous cities, Bostonians ranked second for most likely to say their city has a good relationship with the police. Almost eight out of ten (78%) Bostonians say the relationship between police and residents is “very” or “somewhat” good, while only 13-percent described the relationship as “very” or “somewhat” bad.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the work being done by my officers 24/7/365 to protect and serve one of the greatest cities in America,” Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said. “When it comes to commitment, compassion and professionalism, the men and women of the Boston Police Department are as good as they come.”

Gross said he wasn’t surprised by the positive results of the poll.

“I can say it reaffirms what many of us already know and that’s the fact the Boston Police Department is one of the best in the country,” Gross said.

Denver, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. are also overwhelmingly likely to say their cities have a positive relationship with their police forces.

The cities least likely to say they have a positive relationship with their police force were Chicago, Portland and Minneapolis.
