Ashland teen who created bucket list after bone cancer diagnosis passes away

Jake Silver, an Ashland teen with bone cancer passed away Friday, according to a Facebook post on the Team Jake Facebook page from his mother.

Silver's mother said that the teen passed away Friday morning at 11:05 a.m., and said the teen had been "miserable and moaning and sounded like he had fluid all in his chest" Thursday night.

"This was by far the worse experience of my life," the mother wrote in the post.

Ashland teen Jake Silver created a bucket list after learning he had bone cancer. Doctors told him he had three months to live, maybe six. That was three years ago.

One thing that had been on his bucket list was attending the Super Bowl. To make Jake's dreams possible, football players from the Tri-Valley League held fundraisers. In Medfield, they raised about $12,000 and the family traveled to Atlanta to see the Patriots take on the Rams in Super Bowl LIII, but unfortunately, hours before kickoff, the family announced they weren't going to make it to the big game.

"Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Jakes oxygen was at 43 this morning and we couldn’t arouse him. Long story short he is the ICU in Atlanta and awake. Will keep you posted when I can," his family posted on the Team Jake Facebook page.

The family said, at the time, they couldn't get Jake to stay awake for more than a few seconds. After getting to the ER, doctors said he had hypoxia and put him on oxygen. After bloodwork, and X-ray and CT scan of his head, chest and abdomen, ultrasounds and an EKG, they determined Jake's blood count was low so he needed a transfusion, he had pneumonia and need antibiotics, and his heart had too much stress on it from his body fighting.

The family said in the Facebook post that arrangements are still being made, and that an update will be posted when they are official.

"I think it will hit me when I go to say goodnight to my son who I have given a kiss to and said goodnight to every night from the last 18 years and 363 days and he won’t be there.
