1 dead, 1 rescued in Roxbury after firefighters battled flames in extreme heat

One person died and another was rescued in a fire early Saturday morning in Roxbury.

Boston firefighters first got the call around 4 a.m. for the fire on 52 Rockland Street, where flames were shooting the roof.

The deputy fire chief told Boston 25 they struck two-alarms, allowing for extra manpower to help battle the flames in the extreme heat.

In addition to the hot temperature, a hoarding situation on the second and third floor posed another challenge.

A neighbor said a mother and her adult son lived in the home. The son, who was found on the third floor, did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
