Man allegedly hires hitman to kill wife

WOBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man who allegedly hired a hit man to kill his wife was arraigned Tuesday morning.

Police say Andrew Gordon, 51, tried to pay an undercover MA State Trooper $20,000 to kill his wife. The MA State Trooper, posing as a hitman, said that the initial plan called for Gordon's wife's murder, but in subsequent discussions the defendant allegedly asked the "hitman" to instead beat his wife so she could not appear at a scheduled court meeting.

A joint investigation by the Chelmsford Police, State Police, and Tyngsboro Police led to Gordon's arrest on Friday.

"This could have been a very dangerous situation," Deputy Chief Spinney said in a statement.

Police say that Gordon learned his wife wanted a divorce during June and July, right around the time the woman's car was repeatedly vandalized. Authorities allege that Gordon not only committed the vandalism, but also allege that he watched his wife's apartment complex from nearby woods with a ski mask and binoculars.

Gordon is being held without bail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for October 21.
